Greater Calm

"And he [Jesus] arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm." Mark 4:39

How fearful, how trying the storms of life are, at times! How we cry out to the Master for deliverance. The tempest is upon us, all thy waves and thy billows are over us. We see no reprieve and, worse yet, we see no purpose in this storm. Where is the Master of the wind? Does he not care that we perish?

Then...he speaks. All is calm; a calm made greater by contrast. Here is the sweetness of the storm, on the more full appreciation of the calm. Ah! there was calm before the storm, was there not? Yet we did not notice. We failed to praise and thank the Master for that blessing which we now fully appreciate. The extreme fury of the storm made the calm, which we had before, seem great. But now our faith is bolstered and we trust in the Master of the wind and there is great calm in our souls.

Trust thru the storm,
Rest through the strife;
The Master is near,
He cares for your life.
In time he will speak
And quiet the sea,
In contrast of storm
Greater calm there will be.
